Krannert Center – University of Illinois

Julie Rundell is Assistant Properties Director at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Here’s what Julie has to say about Gravity & Momentum blood:

Why is Blood Jam the blood I use at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois?  It looks great and washes out of everything!

I discovered Blood Jam in 2012 while preparing to do a production of Dracula for Illinois Theatre. I needed blood that could be washed out of multiple fabrics and that was safe to use in an actor’s mouth. Blood Jam fit the bill. It was easy to change the viscosity for various applications—blood packs, sponges, squeeze delivery devices—and we were able to wash it out of more than 50 different fabric samples. For Illinois Theatre’s 2015 production of ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, we used just under a gallon of blood a night. At the end of the run, I was thrilled to find that the bedding that was saturated in blood every night wasn’t stained at all. We were even able to wipe it off of a satin tablecloth that had been treated with a water repellent by using just a sponge and hot water.

Check out some photos of Blood Jam in action in Illinois Theatre’s 2015 production of ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore:
