Today we bring you a couple of cool ways to create blood spatter effects in image files using GIMP, a free, open source tool for creating and editing images:
Method 1 – Using GIMP’s built in tools
Here’s a super easy way to use layers, the airbrush tool and alpha-channel correction to create a blood spatter effect. The shape of the spatter is completely up to you. Thanks to Megamotion Films for creating the video.
Method 2 – Using custom splatter brushes
Using this method you’re locked into the shapes that the custom brushes offer, but a couple of them are extremely convincing.
- Download the brushes here.
- Extract the .zipped files into your c:\users\[username]\.gimp-2.8\brushes\ folder.
- Close and reopen GIMP (if it was open when you extracted the brush files).
- Create a new image file.
- Choose the airbrush tool and a foreground color to match the blood spatter color you want.
- Select one of the custom brushes. Resize the brush if necessary.
- SPLATTER!
